Trail mix is about the easiest snack there is to make: a few kinds of nuts, something sweet and a jar to keep it in. It suits long drives, school bags, office drawers and the walk home. Making homemade trail mix means you choose exactly what goes in, and how much of each. Here is a simple way to start, and some ideas for when you want to change it.
A simple starting mix
Think in parts rather than grams, so you can make a small jar or a big tin from the same recipe. A part can be a cup, a handful or a bowl.
- Two parts walnut halves or pieces
- Two parts whole almonds
- One part cashews
- One part golden raisins
Tip everything into a large bowl, mix it with your hands so the raisins do not clump together, and pack it into jars. That is all there is to it.
